Homes For Wounded Veterans

Let’s meet Ron (Tony) Porta, U.S. Marine Corps., wounded war veteran.

wounded warriorA native of Peru, Tony’s life-long dream was to become a U.S. Marine. After graduating high school, Tony enlisted. Two years later, on May 5, 2007, while serving in Al Asad, Iraq, the Humvee he was driving struck an improvised explosive device (IED), severely burning Tony over 80% of his body. His fellow Marines , MSGT Kenneth Mack and CPL Charles Palmer II made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

Tony suffered the loss of his right arm, fingers on his left hand and facial disfigurement. Tony has undergone well over 140 surgeries to aid in his recovery and spent six and a half years in a San Antonio Hospital. Tony and his wife, Deicy, are proud parents to son Kenneth Charles, who was named in honor of Tony’s fallen brothers.

And Tony is just one of the millions of wounded Veterans in the U.S.

But their are those who are doing something to honor and assist our Nation’s wounded Veterans.

Now we’d like to introduce you to HeroHomes, a local, non-profit organization that builds homes, right here in Purceville to wounded Veterans. Veterans like Tony.

Mission: “Building houses, jobs, and community for those who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy for others. HeroHomes is a 501(c)3 not for profit foundation established to build houses for those who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy for others. These deserving vets and their families cannot regain what they lost defending our country, but we can give them a new start in building a solid foundation for their future and the dignity of an independent life in a wonderful small town community setting. We provide the opportunity for disabled veterans to rejoin society with the security and pride of home ownership.” – HeroHomes

Building Tony’s basement was the best and most important project we, at JDS Construction LLC, have ever completed, and we could not have done it without the generosity of HeroHomes, Kiddco Plumbing and Cabinet Showplace, and, of course, the inspiration of Ron (Tony) Porta, U.S. Marine Corps.
