Building Your Dream Kitchen
May 2015 – Dream Outside The Ordinary:
- Countertops
- Cabinets
- Flooring
Your Countertops Should Reflect Your Personality…
Think outside the box. While granite remains the number one choice for Loudoun County Homeowners there are many other materials that may be better suited for your personality and lifestyle.
Engineered stone, commonly referred to as Silestone is gaining in popularity due to it’s durability and variety of color.
Then there is marble and butcher block and concrete; soapstone and stainless steel. And for the budget conscious there is corian and for the eco-conscious there is Composite. For more information on countertops click here:

The Kitchen Cabinet…
Nothing quite defines your kitchen as the cabinets you chose. Because they literally surround your kitchen. What is your style? Traditional, contemporary, country, shabby chic, modern rustic? The style of your home and the style in which you decorate should flow with your kitchen cabinets, especially in today’s open floor plans. Find your style and then start googling images until you get an idea of what you like. Don’t be afraid to mix and match: contrasting colored cabinets on a kitchen island might make all the difference in making your kitchen unique to your personality.
What do you want to walk on?
Much like countertops you may be surprised to discover the varied options in kitchen flooring. Around these parts, hardwood is still the king of kitchen flooring and always a classic. But what stain to choose? Natural, a deep mahogany, wide plank pine? When choosing a stain think of the color scheme in your decorative style and especially the color of your cabinets. A washed out grey would be superb aginst some white caabinets in a beach house or imagine how a natural stained, wide plank floor would look agianst deep mahogany cabinets? Think contrast that compliments and avoid oak on oak or dark floors with dark cabinets.
If you are more contemporary in your design tastes consider other flooring options such as concrete or manufactured stone that has the look of reclaimed wood and go for a monochromatic color scheme with a pop of color. Or go bold and stark. For more details on kitchen flooring choices click here:
